Tangy fruit salad

Bright, tart, crunchy, pretending to be casual

⏱️ Time estimate: about 20 minutes

Oranges with apples, persimmons, pears, or Asian pears, dressed with lemon, salt, pepper, optional Aleppo or sumac, and a little olive oil.

Tangy fruit salad with citrus and sliced fruit on a platter

Ingredients

  • 2 oranges, peel and pith removed, thinly sliced
  • 1 to 1 1/2 pounds apples, persimmons, pears, and/or Asian pears, thinly sliced
  • 1 lemon, halved
  • Kosher salt and black pepper
  • Aleppo-style pepper, optional
  • Sumac, optional
  • Olive oil, for drizzling

Instructions

  1. Arrange the fruit. Layer the oranges and sliced apples, persimmons, and/or pears on a platter or in a shallow bowl.
  2. Dress it. Squeeze the lemon over the fruit and season with salt, pepper, and Aleppo pepper or sumac if using.
  3. Finish. Drizzle with olive oil just before serving.

Best assembled at the last possible minute so the fruit stays glossy and sharp instead of getting sleepy.
