A green salad tossed with sour cream and onion dressing

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 2 tablespoons sherry vinegar or red wine vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 2 teaspoons honey or agave
  • 2 teaspoons Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce, optional
  • 1 garlic clove, finely grated or minced
  • Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped chives, plus more for serving
  • 10 loosely packed cups torn or chopped lettuce, such as butter lettuce or romaine hearts

Instructions

  1. Make the dressing. In a large bowl, whisk together the sour cream, vinegar, onion powder, honey, Dijon, Worcestershire if using, garlic, and a pinch each of salt and pepper until completely smooth.
  2. Add the chives. Stir the chopped chives into the dressing. You can make the dressing up to 3 days ahead and chill it in an airtight container.
  3. Dress the greens. Add the lettuce and gently toss until everything is evenly coated. Taste and adjust with more salt or pepper if needed.
  4. Serve. Finish with extra chives and a few more cracks of black pepper.
